Playlist of the Day~M.I.A.

Nobody has swag like M.I.A., I have always loved her music. This Third World Balla (as she calls herself) music is truly phenomenal. I like to call it straight up worldly hip hop music. Check her out, you will surely like!

(From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia)Mathangi "Maya" Arulpragasam better known by her stage name M.I.A., is a British songwriter, record producer, vocalist and visual artist of Sri Lankan Tamil descent. Her music encompasses various genres she has expressed interest in, with lyrics that voice politics, social realism and humour. Her artwork and clothes feature similar topics and have distinctive, often vibrant color schemes.

An accomplished visual artist by 2002, she came to prominence in early 2004 through file-sharing of her singles "Galang" and "Sunshowers" on the Internet. In 2005, her debut album, Arular, was nominated for the Mercury Prize. Her second album, Kala, was released in 2007. Her single "Paper Planes" was particularly commercially successful in 2008.In addition to her work as a graphic designer, providing artwork and photography for releases and as a director of music videos, she has also experimented with documentary film and in 2008 released a collection of her fashion designs.

Obama on Education

The Problem

No Child Left Behind Left the Money Behind: The goal of the law was the right one, but unfulfilled funding promises, inadequate implementation by the Education Department and shortcomings in the design of the law itself have limited its effectiveness and undercut its support. As a result, the law has failed to provide high-quality teachers in every classroom and failed to adequately support and pay those teachers.

Teacher Retention is a Problem: Thirty percent of new teachers leave within their first five years in the profession.

Soaring College Costs: College costs have grown nearly 40 percent in the past five years. The average graduate leaves college with over $19,000 in debt. And between 2001 and 2010, 2 million academically qualified students will not go to college because they cannot afford it. Finally, our complicated maze of tax credits and applications leaves too many students unaware of financial aid available to them.

Playlist of the Day~Nelly Furtado

Nelly Furtado, I personally have always been a fan, but she truly got me with her latest album and her remake of ManEater. Her style crosses many genres giving her music a good feel.

(From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia) Nelly Kim Furtado (born December 2, 1978) is a Canadian singer-songwriter, record producer, actor and instrumentalist, who also holds Portuguese citizenship. Furtado came to fame in 2000 with the release of her debut album Whoa, Nelly!, which featured her breakthrough Grammy Award-winning single "I'm like a Bird". After becoming a mother and releasing the less commercially successful Folklore (2003), she returned to prominence in 2006 with the release of Loose and its hit singles "Promiscuous", "Maneater" and "Say It Right". Furtado is known for experimenting with different instruments, sounds, genres, vocal styles and languages. This diversity has been influenced by her wide-ranging musical taste and her interest in different cultures.

VDAY EGYPT

Beginning in 2005, V-Day is proud to make Cairo home to the Secretariat for V-Day Africa, the Middle East, Asia as well as the hub of our Karama Program in the Middle East and North Africa.

In 1997, an Egyptian government survey found that 97 percent of all ever-married Egyptian women have undergone Female Genital Mutilation (FGM), a cultural practice that is deeply imbedded in social norms regulating women’s role with regard to their marital and reproductive lives.[1] The hazardous practice of FGM has been linked to numerous health problems among women that adversely affect their reproductive capacities, self-esteem, and in some cases their mortality.

Egyptian groups including the National Council for Childhood and Motherhood (NCCM) and others are spearheading a campaign to stop the practice of FGM by means of a three-year initiative focusing on 60 villages in Upper Egypt. The campaign faces steep challenges due to seemingly inflexible social attitudes and practices deeply rooted in tradition.

Q-Tip - Getting Up

Q-TIP IS ALWAYS THE MAN.

Letter From Eve From Goma

From Vday Vmail

Dear Friends,

I am writing at 6AM as we board the five-hour boat ride from Goma to Bukavu in the Democratic Republic of Congo. The sky is a V-Day pink as the sun rises over Lake Kivu, the sound of tropical birds, the greenest flora, and a morning alive with hundreds of passengers and porters and travelers. I have been here over a week and it has been full of many extremes - enormous despair, potential violence, criminal poverty, regular power failures, tropical storms, streets of dried lava from the last volcano, and encroaching war. Laurent Nkunda's forces were at one point this week within 27 kilometers of Goma. Moments where we were not allowed to travel, moments when the event was almost canceled as the security threat was too great, but we prevailed.

Then, there is our amazing campaign, the activists, the survivors and our brilliant team working on the ground - UNICFE'S Pernille Ironside, Francesca Morandini and Esther Ntoto. The V-Day team here with me, V-Day Campaigns Manager Purva Panday, photographer Paula Allen, and videographer Taylor Krauss, will be joined later this morning in Bukavu by Congolese activist and V-Day's newest staff member Christine Schuler Deschryver. Christine will officially begin working for V-Day in December.

I spent the last week preparing for our very successful event on September 12th in Goma. I worked with ten survivors, women who have suffered terrible rapes and losses and shame and still they were willing to stand in front of their communities and break the silence. During the week we did numerous theater exercises, releasing trauma and rage and sorrow and they rehearsed telling their stories...

Ten Dating Red Flags

I found this neat article on Dating Diaries on Yahoo..
By Rich Santos, Marie Claire,
When determining if you should let things get serious, remember: actions speak louder than words. With that being said, here are ten dating red flags. If you see any of these, do yourself a favor and reconsider if it's worth it for you.

1. You are not on the VIP list for breaking news

2. They avoid meeting your family or friends

3. They don't make any sacrifices

4. They can't fit in your future

5. They are too controlling

6. The "what are we" conversation fails miserably

7. They talk about plans that don't involve you

8. Your friends or family don't like them

9. They violated your trust

10. You practice "unbalanced dating"

Women Breaking the Silence -- Historic Event Takes Place in Goma, DRC

From VDAY VMAIL
V-Day Founder/Artistic Director Eve Ensler is currently on her third visit to the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC). On September 12th in Goma, V-Day in partnership with UNICEF, organized a day-long event, "Women Breaking the Silence" as part of the joint global campaign: Stop Raping Our Greatest Resource: Power to Women and Girls in Democratic Republic of Congo." The event featured for the first time in the history of the DRC survivors of sexual violence publicly speaking out against their rapes and the impact of violence on their lives. In front of authorities from the government of the DRC, the United Nations, various Embassies to the DRC, representatives from North Kivu civil society, and campaign activists, seven women told their stories of rape and issued a call to the world to put an end to the sexual violence that has afflicted hundreds of thousands of women and girls in the country.

Sexual violence in the eastern DRC continues at epidemic proportions. Rape is used as a weapon of war to torture and humiliate women and girls. This systemic sexual violence and femicide not only destroys women and young girls but also entire families and communities. Survivors often suffer in silence, fearing stigma and ostracism. In addition to the severe psychological impact, many survivors are left with genital lesions, traumatic fistulae and other physical wounds, as well as unwanted pregnancies and sexually transmitted infections. Local response to support survivors is hindered by a lack of resources. There is near total impunity for these crimes as perpetrators almost always walk free.

"Stop Raping Our Greatest Resource, Power To The Women And Girls Of The Democratic Republic Of Congo" is being initiated by the women of Eastern DRC, V-Day and UNICEF on behalf of UN Action Against Sexual Violence in Conflict. The campaign calls for an end to the violence and to impunity for those who commit these atrocities.

The Family That Preys... Review

The Family That Preys, was a pretty good movie. Dynamic cast and truly a great story. It was so good, the movie made me hate Sanaa Lathan for a minute lol, she was soooo mean on the movie. lol. Check this movie out. Alfred Woodard did a great job, Cathy Bates almost made me cried, Rockmond Dunbar looked sexy, and I wanted to cut Tyler Perry's hair lol. Go out and check it out. Lesson from this movie. The stuff you do to others will come back on you!!! Also don't hold the hurt of the past in because it will affect the future.

Summary
Academy Award®-winner Kathy Bates and Academy Award®-nominee Alfred Woodard star as the matriarchs of two very different families being torn apart by greed and scandal in the contemporary drama "Tyler Perry's The Family That Preys." The sixth feature film by Perry chronicles the inner workings of two familiesone upper-crust and the other working class that become inextricably linked by scandal.

TheMinorityWE History Spot:Lucy Terry

1746- Lucy Terry (c.1730-1821), a slave and orator, was the first black American poet. "Bars Fight," written this year (her only known poem), was inspired by an Indian ambush of haymakers in the Bars, a small plateau near Deerfield Massachusetts. It was not published until 1855, in Josiah Gilbert Holland's History of Western Masschusetts. Terry was kidnapped as an infant in Africa brought to Rhode Island. In 1756 Terry married Abijah Prince and obtained her freedom. She is also noted for her determined, if unsuccessful, attempt to persuade Williams College to accept her son as a student- she is reported to have argued before the board of trustees for three hours.

Sleep Aid

Two healthy glasses of a full bodied Greek Red Wine swooned me
At half past 10
Then stillness rest quickly on racing
Thoughts
Plummeting into paradoxical sleep

Quarter past 2 body temperature rises
Tossing my limbs turning my head
Static creeps up from my toes
Bringing heat dehydration and

Awakening

Throwing the blanket that comforted me
Pulling off my t-shirt and panties
So that I can... Breathe...

I tip toe on the chilled hardwood floors
Awkwardly rushing to the freezing tiles
While trying to hold on to a piece of

Sleep

My body plops onto the toilet's seat
In the dark
Eyes closed drowsiness appears along with

Release

I Stumble blindly back to bed
Now searching for a half filled bottle of stale water
From the night before
To ease the dryness of dehydration

I lay down finding my safe space and
the cool side of my feathered pillow
Yearning to return cradled in sleep

But...

Stilled thoughts quicken and begin racing hurdling sprinting
Through my mind
Questioning how things could turnout
If maybe this might happen
If only that would happen
over and over various scenarios flip flop
Flips my mind
anxiety settles...

It's now quarter to 5

I'm wide awake

Alarm set for half past 6

I'm Exhausted

YEAR OF THE GENTLEMAN

I never thought this day would come...... I actually have fallen a victim to NE-YO. I can say, I absolutely LOVE LOVE LOVE NE-YO new cd, "Year of the Gentleman", I mean it. Ever since I purchased it, I can not tell you how many times I sat and listen to this album. Ne-Yo is truly a great artist and probably one of the best writers of our time. Not only does the music get to you, but the writing is something u can relate to. When this album comes on, Ne-YO is my boyfriend. Some of my favorite songs from the album are, "Fade into the Background", "Why Does She Stay", and "So You Can Cry". I suggest you go out and get this album ASAP. It is definitely worth the buy and there hasn't been many albums that came out this year that you would be able to say that about. CHECK OUT THE YEAR OF THE GENTLEMAN

Year Of The Gentleman

Snapshots of the Stories of Survivors Who Broke the Silence

From Vday Vmail
ZAMUDA
54 years old. 5 militias Tutsi's and Mai Mai. I was naked in front of my kids. Her husband and children were killed in front of her. They beat her legs. She will never forget the feeling of the rifle inside her vagina. She has no kids to take care of her when she is old.

FRANCIE
On main road. Industrial school. Selling something, Carrying a bag of soybeans. With my best friend. I live near airport. It was 7pm. Two men jumped me. I was with a friend. She could run faster cause she wasn't carrying anything. They started screaming at me. Stopped me and told me to take off my clothes or we will kill you. They raped me. I got pregnant. Don't know which one of their babies it is. My wedding was supposed to happen in October. When my dad heard I was raped, he said instead of giving back the dowry, they should kill me. I ran away. I thought of getting an abortion. I kept the baby. Named her Joyeuese.

NADO
I don't want to give my name. My community doesn't know what happened to me. I won't give the name of my rapist if I do, they will bring him to the police, He will get out and rape me again. I was 10 and a half when I was raped. It was an old man. He took me and tied with ropes. He put a stick in my mouth. I stopped coming to school. I am an orphan. I was raped in a house a second time. Rape was something I did not expect,. It comes in my dreams.

LUMO
The soldiers came and told 5 women to come with them. Two of them had babies. 2 mothers asked questions and were killed on the way. One bullet went through a mother and her baby. By the time they got to forest there were only 2 women, Lumo and her friend. Brought them in the forest. Men from the country. Interahamwe. They caught her looking at them and they started to beat her. They were afraid of being identified. 50 of them raped her and her friend. She lost her mind. Began at 2:30 and went on till 7pm. They shoved grass in my mouth and tied me with my clothes. After I couldn't walk. They used my clothes and dragged me on the ground. The next day a hunter found me. I was hospitalized for three years. I have fistula from the rapes. I still after 9 operations have fistula. I was going to be married. My husband left me after the rapes. He got his dowry back. My friend ended up dying.

MARTA
Men threw her to ground, She banged her head. She fought one off. The other soldier accused the soldier of being a girl. He raped her and picked up her baby. She was sure he was going to throw the baby against a wall. He threw baby on bed. Then they set the house on fire. Locked her in the house while it was burning Her brother let her out. She went back for the baby and was burned from head to toe. She ran and jumped in the lake which was a very bad idea. The baby died three days later.
I had no value until I came here. People were afraid of me. They thought I was a monster. Then they changed when they heard my story,

VALENTINO
Seven months pregnant when she was raped .He was hitting my hips telling me to move the way I move when I make love to my husband. I felt something coming out.
Husband left me after even though he watched her being raped. They had a gun to his head and he was on his knees. The next day he accused me of liking it. Left me with five kinds, kicked us out of the house. My family left me.

JANET
When I hear a boom, I am terrified. The pain they felt when they took my leg over my head as they raped me. They leg was lose and they were pulling it. I was screaming the pain was so great. I had 2 surgeries-nothing they could do. Head of the thigh bone was gone,. I will be on crutches for the rest of my life.
"I've always been courageous. Always will be courageous. If the military want to kill me for telling my story, I am ready to die."

ECONOMY REFORM

As you probably seen in the news lately, since the problems on Wall Street, the presidential campaigns have begun to focus on the economy.

Areas of Barack Obama Economy Plan
* Jumpstart the Economy
* Provide Middle Class Americans Tax Relief
* Trade
* Job Creation
* Support Small Business
* Labor
* Protect Homeownership and Crack Down on Mortgage Fraud

John McCain's Economy Plan
Obama, McCain Duel for Economic Credibility

* Cut The Corporate Tax Rate From 35 To 25 Percent.

o A lower corporate tax rate is essential to U.S. competitiveness. America was once a low-tax business environment, but as our trade partners lowered their rates, America failed to keep pace, leaving us with the second-highest rate among the world’s advanced economies.

o Cutting the corporate tax will expand the U.S. economy, creating jobs and opportunities for prosperity. A recent analysis of tax policy options estimated that a cut less than half this size could increase long-term growth by 0.5 percent, or $100 billion in a single year.

Cusack Speaks about the Palin Distraction

This is a interesting article by John Cusack weighing in on Sarah Palin.

We all know McCain has sold his soul to win. Big mistake: the Democrats are taking the GOP bait, especially on Palin. She is the ultimate distraction. If we're not careful she'll be the final distraction. The perfect new celebrity -- Sarah Barracuda -- to capture the message in the 24-hour spin orgy, all the while attacking Obama as an elite celebrity. Any narrative that focuses on her -- any -- is a win for Republicans, carrying an undercurrent of race wars, gender wars, class wars. All ending with a debate on God and a return visit to Rev. Wright.

Palin is a gateway drug to a back-alley brawl Obama can't win. A Joseph Conrad-produced reality show/sitcom with Palin replacing Roseanne Barr fighting for the little guy with sass and sex. Wonderful.

FALL FORWARD with FASHION COLORS

Check out Pantone Fashion Color Report

Fall is right around the corner! Time to pull out your jackets, sweaters, boots and whatever else primps you for another season. Don't forget to mix and match your summer pieces with your fall pieces for a fresh look! Also if your looking to jazz up a collection or maybe even start fresh, I wanted to share with you the Pantone Fashion Color Report for Fall 2008.

"Fall is traditionally a time for subdued, quiet colors, but this season we are seeing a shift toward cool hues with bright, exciting undertones," said Leatrice Eiseman, executive director of the Pantone Color Institute.

As you embark on the harvesting season, make notes of the top 10 fashion colors and make sure you incorporate them in creative ways; unconventional and eclectic will most def set you apart. I highly suggest using these colors as pop factor in your fall collection. Try to step outside ur comfort zone a tad for zest, try different textures and structured pieces like a tailored blazer will always be complementing and PLEASE PLEASE don't be afraid to NOT quite MATCH! It's liberating I promise.

side note suggestion:
MAKE UP - less is more! go for subtle warm colors and colors that will compliment your complexion. Remember to forget the matchy matchy effect; the purple in your top does NOT Need to be on your eyes (some cases are exception of course)! With the beauty of your canvas go for your natural beauty heightened. You are the sexy not what's added!

Most of all... BE YOU! Express your personality through your fashion and as the new trend... Be your own Brand!

THE WOMEN REVIEW

Me and fellow Min We Paige saw The WOMEN, what a phenomenal movie. Its definitely not for everyone and is a bonafied chick flick and brave male flick lol. I loved it. The Cast was just right on. Jada Pinkett Smith, Bette Midler, Meg Ryan, Annette Bening(when I say I love her, I LOVE HER)and others. If you haven't already you need to see this movie ASAP. The message I got from this movie basically is, Learn to love yourself, put yourself first, don't lose sight of your dreams and hopes. LEARN TO BE SELFISH,and ask yourself HOW DO YOU FEEL ABOUT A SITUATION!!!

Summary about The Women

The story centers on a group of gossipy, high-society women who spend their days at the beauty salon and haunting fashion shows. The sweet, happily-wedded Mary Haines finds her marriage in trouble when shop girl Crystal Allen gets her hooks into Mary's man. Naturally, this situation becomes the hot talk amongst Mary's catty friends, especially the scandalmonger Sylvia Fowler, who has little room to talk - she finds herself on a train to Reno and headed for divorce right after Mary

TheMinorityWE History Spot:Nancy Leftenant-Colony

In 1948 Nancy Leftenant-Colony became the first black member of the Regular Army Nurse Corp in March of that year. She was a graduate of Lincoln Hospital School for Nurses, in the Bronx, New York, which enrolled primarily minority students. She joined the Army Reserve nurse corps in February 1945. At the time of her enlistment, black nurses were not highly regarded and were not given the status of regular nurse, but in eleven months she was promoted from second to first lieutenant. Her performance as a nurse was no doubt a factor in the acceptance for her 1948 application fro admission into the Regular Army Nurse Corps. During her service career, she was an Air Force Flight nurse. Leftenant-Colon retired from the Army with the rank of major, in 1965. She worked from 1971 to 1984 as a nurse at Amityville High School in New York, having moved to Long Island when she left the Army. She achieved another "first" as the only woman to be president of the Tuskegee Airmen. She was president of the group from 1989 to 1991.

She speaks on a brief affair with a female stripper. Yes I said female. This article generated so much buzz that the next day she was the most searched for person on Yahoo. And No. 2 was Olivia Wilde. If you read that article you will know why.

In tech news, it looks like we may be getting closer to seeing the highly anticipated Google Phone.

SNL Season premiere has Tina Fey back in action impersonating Sarah Palin.

Proof that God has a sense of humor.

Another top search young lady this week was Cheyenne Woods, the niece of Tiger Woods. This left everyone with a big question. Does it run in the family?

Now this next story is a bit older than all the others. I caught a re-run of the Colbert Report Adam Brickley was being interviewed. Now I want to highlight this kid. This is a college student that maintains a blog and was pitching Palin for VP since 2007. He is being credit for being the influence behind it all. By writing his ideas, he has done something that could possibly change the future of our nation.

With that said WE ARE THE MINORITYWEIRDOS!

Below are a few links, in case you missed it.

V-Report from Kenya: 10 Year Old Girl Dies from FGM

This info was sent to me by Vday Vmail, so of course I had to share!!!!

V-Day supporter Kim Rosen was recently working at the V-Day Safe House in Narok Kenya, and sent us this first hand report of tragic death that we wanted to share with you. V-Day is committed to continuing to work to end Female Genital Mutilation. This story reminds us all that there is more work to be done.

On August 18, in the tiny village of Narosura in the Rift Valley, a 10 year-old girl died from Female Genital Mutilation. At 5 that morning she was cut. By 10, she had bled to death.

Her family wrapped the body in a sheet and secretly buried it a few yards from their huts. By that afternoon, there was no evidence of the crime.

If it were not for the network of conscience that Agnes Pareyio has woven into the Maasai community, this child's death would have gone unnoticed. But an anonymous "informer" called her on the morning of the ceremony, in time for her to send one of her collaborators and an officer of the law to the hasty funeral.

As a result, for the first time in Maasai history, a circumciser has been arrested.

This child's death is reminder that the work is far from done. Girls are still being cut in the Rift Valley and many other places in the world. Some are dying. All are scarred for life. Agnes Pareyio is one of the leading activists of the V-Day movement. Please join us in continuing to support her work to change the fate of Maasai girls and stop FGM worldwide.

The Vagina Monologues Reaches Its 5000th Performance in Mexico City, Raising Awareness of Violence Against Women in Juarez at Every Show

In the last 14 years, over 400 women and girls have been killed or disappeared in Juarez, across the border from El Paso, Texas. Many of the victims were raped, mutilated and tortured. One of the victims was a six-year-old girl. Despite the fact that these murders have persisted, there has not been significant progress in providing protection to the women of Juarez or in bringing the perpetrators to justice. In 2004 V-Day's annual Spotlight Campaign focused on the Missing and Murdered Women of Juarez bringing the issue to thousands of women and men all over the world.

The Tales of Beedle the Bard

Being the Harry Potter fanatic I am, I have decided to reserve my copy of the new book by J.K. Rowling, The Tales of Beedle the Bard, due out on my wonderful birthday December 4th. Here is a little something about the book for your reading pleasures....
(Excerpt from Amazon.com)
The Tales of Beedle the Bard, Standard Edition

In December 2007, J.K. Rowling unveiled The Tales of Beedle the Bard, a very special book of five fairy tales illustrated by the bard herself, embellished with silver ornaments and mounted moonstones. Amazon was fortunate to come into possession of one of the original copies, and it was our privilege to share images and reviews of this incredible artifact. Now J.K. Rowling is giving millions of Harry Potter fans worldwide cause for celebration with a new edition of The Tales of Beedle the Bard, available December 4, 2008.

The true jewel of this new edition is the enlightening and comprehensive commentary (including extensive footnotes!) by Professor Albus Percival Wulfric Brian Dumbledore, who brings his unique wizard's-eye perspective to the collection. Discovered "among the many papers which Dumbledore left in his will to the Hogwarts Archives".

Tuesday Night TV Line-Up

90210

I would have never ever thought I would like this show, but it actually caught me. I just have to know what will happen next

This week's episode:At Kelly's request, Brenda replaces Tabitha as director of the school musical, but the two friends soon find themselves at odds over Kelly's relationship with Ryan. At the Wilsons, money concerns prompt Dixon to get a job at the Peach Pit, but Annie is more worried about her disappointing date with Ethan. Elsewhere, Naomi confronts some difficult facts about her home life.

House

Of Course this show was the bomb, because House is the greatest doctor ever... I don't know a more chaotic, crazy, person than House. He is just sooo talented.

This week's episode:As the fifth season opens, Wilson returns from an extended leave following Amber's death and announces he's leaving Princeton-Plainsboro. House thinks it's a terrible idea, and he isn't shy about saying so. Wilson's announcement also distracts him from the case at hand, that of the workaholic 37-year-old assistant to the leader of a major feminist organization who collapses during a business meeting. Thirteen takes a special interest in the case, and House questions her reasons for doing so.

Privileged

This show has quickly became one of my favorites. Its cute, girly, and just sweet. Check it out. A young woman becomes a live-in tutor for rebellious twin teens in Palm Beach, Fla., and adjusts to life among the rich and powerful.

NFL Week 2 - What Do We Know? Part Two

Photobucket
Saints 24, Reds 29
WDWK: Since Sean Payton has been coach Saints have had Fred Thomas, Jason David and now Terry Porter at CB. Each had a penchment for getting beat when they were in man coverage. Porter had one great game but was abused during this one. Who Dats can only hope the unique speed of Moss was simply too much for the Rook and not indicative of continued failings of New Orleans CBs.

DYK: Portis complained after opening day lost to Giants where offense looked anemic. Besides for 1st Half Redzone bog downs, Reds offense looked very decent. Either Portis talked some sense into coaching staff, or its all a huge coincidence.

Bonus Knowledge: The only '07 1st Round Pick never to play a single game Robert Meachem got his 1st regular season action in this game. On his 1st play, he completed his 1st reception on 1st attempt for his 1st touchdown. For a moment, he was greatest WR of all time. Methinks it is all downhill from here.

Niners 33, Seahawks 30

WDWK: When crappy teams collide entertainment can be found.

DYK: Hawks Headcoach had played to retire after this season to join his wife in Africa and do humanitarian work....However after losing most of his WR and starting 2-0 rumor is he has begun saying he will take a "sabbatical" rather than retirement. While I don't think he expected a Superbowl, he clearly didn't expect his last year to be like this

Falcons 9, Bucs 24

WDWK: There is not much drop off from Jeff Gracia and Brian Griese....actually we knew this already.

DYK: Matt Ryan is no longer greatest QB of all time failing to match his 1st attempt/completion/touchdown brilliance of Week 1

Cardinals 31, Dolphins 10

WDWK: Cardinals look good.....I give them 2 more weeks....

DYK: Dolphins will be drafting a QB in the next draft. Chad Henne is not an answer to any question.

Chargers 38, Broncos 39

WDWK: Mike Shannan has balls my friend. Going for win in week 2 against a divsion foe and you have home field for OT? BALLSY!!!!

DYK: Did I mention had the 2 point conversion failed, Broncos would probably have lost at home against a division foe??? BALLS!!

Patriots 19, Jets 10

WDWK: Matt Cassel can outplay Brett Farve. Yea I said It. Deal with it

DYK: Randy Moss caught only two passes....better be glad they won...all I'm saying....

Steelers 10, Browns 6

WDWK: Romeo Crennel is gambling man...Meaning, with his team down seven points in a game where the spread is six points, within striking distance of the endzone for the 1st time with only 4 min left, Crennel calls the deficit reducing field goal making the lost only 4 points.....He still needed a touchdown either way....all he did was ruin those who picked Steelers...Like me...To punish him, I shall pick against Browns every week until Brady Quinn takes the field
DYK: Kellen Winslow, arguably Browns best receiving threat did not take field with less than one minute to go and Browns needing a touchdown. Know it now cause it will be news all week.

Eagles 34, Dallas 41

WDWK: Romo to Owens is a damn good thing. McNabb so sho nuff jealous.

DYK: I told you to get your popcorn ready, amazing game that I was sad to see someone lose. For a game with this much scoring surprisingly alot of defensive highlights

NFL Week 2 - What Do We Know? Part One

Another week has passed and more and more is learned. Well lets go to school, and see What We Know.

Bears 17, Panthers 20
WDWK: The Cats are cardiac and can comeback. Few teams can block a punt and still lose, Da Bears are apparently one of the few.

DYK: Panthers are 2-0 without their #1 player Steve Smith. He now returns....be afraid NFL, be afraid

Titans 24, Bengals 7
WDWK: Bengals suck...and forget Ocho Cinco, Bengals are stuck on Dos. Bengals are dependent on offensive production and have managed only 2 touchdowns this season.

DYK: Kerry Collins played very well in replacement for not-suidicial-wellmaybe-Ihavenoidea Vince Young. So expect to hear about a controversy in 4 wks.

Packers 48, Lions 24
WDWK: Packers made the right move. Now they know Aaron can lead the team forward, another year of Brett Favre (barring him taking them to Superbowl) is not as beneficial as knowing who your QB is for next 5 plus years

DYK: Lions showed courage in rallying and putting up 16 in the 4th....They also showed suckitude in letting Pack put up 24-nada.

Bills 20, Jaguars 16
WDWK: Its nice and cozy on Bills Bandwagon, get on before too late.

DYK: Jags may be best 0-2 team but they are decimated on O-Line and can't get running game going. They need to turn this around or Colts/Titans will put division out of reach.

Colts 18, Vikings 15
WDWK: When I say Run First-Defensive Minded teams need their offenses to score at least thrice, I meant Touchdowns. Colts held under 20, but field goals, even 5 of them can't keep up with TDs

DYK: All-Day Adrian Peterson went over 150 yards on ground...but no TD's....Yards < TDs on Winner Importance Meter.

Raiders 23, Chiefs 8.
WDWK: Either Chiefs aren't playing with an offense or Raider's Defense wasn't on field last week. What does this tell us? Both teams suck, but how much and for how long is indeterminable.

DYK: I was so disjoined by McFadden's dismal 1st game I sat him this week on my Fantasy team. Never again.

Giants 41, Rams 13
WDWK: Rams suck....alot...Also, Mr. Tuck is well on his way to Defensive MVP.

DYK: Rams actually only scored 6 pts. The catch you shall no doubt see over and over on highlight reels showing Holt staying with the ball and having "tied" possession with defender should have been Touchback, not Touchdown. While ties do indeed go to Offensive,
video CLEARLY shows the defender had full and complete control of ball and was down by contact before Holt realized he could get his hand in. Touchback like Touchdowns occur instantly once conditions are met, Defender completed catch was touched down in endzone. That's the play my friends

RECESSION MAKES ME NEED A VACATION

Jezzy said it best when he said recession is underway (Okay maybe he didnt say it quite like that, but you get the point). We are in the middle of a recession. And things have just got worst! Before I go on, for those who don't know what recession is, here is a little background information for you:A recession is a contraction phase of the business cycle. In the USA, the National Bureau of Economic Research (NBER) defines it more broadly as "a significant decline in economic activity spread across the economy, lasting more than a few months, normally visible in real GDP, real income, employment, industrial production, and wholesale-retail sales. Also, a GDP is gross domestic product (GDP)its one of the measures of national income and output for a given country's economy.GDP is defined as the total market value of all final goods and services produced within the country in a given period of time (usually a calendar year). It is also considered the sum of value added at every stage of production (the intermediate stages) of all final goods and services produced within a country in a given period of time, and it is given a money value. Okay I will leave it at that for you, at this time.

Something you should check out, if you haven't already. The Dow Jones is down 300 points today. That's extremely major, which is due to the decline of two major firms. Lehman has filed bankruptcy, while Merrill Lynch is another victim to the takeover!!!! Merrill Lynch has been brought out by Bank of America.

Lehman Brothers was founded in 1850,its a global financial services firm. Its a participant in investment banking, equity and fixed income sales, research and trading, investment management, private equity, and private banking. It is a primary dealer in the U.S. Treasury securities market. So people be afraid be very afraid! Im partially kidding. But people keep a watch on the market, because if these things keep trickling down, we the consumers can be affected especially if the commercial banking begins to have problems.

Asathecomic on Russell Brand taunting the Jonas Brothers

Russell Brand taunted the Jonas Brothers up at the 2008 VMA's because they wear purity rings!!!! asathecomic discussed the situation on his vlog.

Questions...
Who is Russell Brand anyways?
What gives him the right to attack these kids because of their purity ring?
Again who is Russell Brand? How did he even get the spot as host?
