Min We Fav Blog Series: Tools To Make You A Mobile News Reporter

As New Orleanians, we usually get our stream of news from a small array of local media sources.  Because our city is small, those media outlets dominate the markets they are in.  But given the advancement of mobile devices, anyone can turn themselves into a mobile new station.  With nothing but his iPhone and a twitter client, Tom Martin went on a five day love fest where he took photos and sent tweets out to people on the Internet, showing them Mardi Gras from a family man’s point of view.  Or take Aura “Fedora” Shannon, who uses Hipcast to interview guests that are touring New Orleans and also plans to use it during Halloween.

Min We Fav Blogs Series: The Relationship Prenup

Other day on the crack called Twitter, one of my tweeps asked was it selfish of her to ask for something back from an ex-boyfriend. I responded back to her saying if she didn't want him to have it in the first place she shouldn't have bought it.

Bourbon

the street is restless
with throngs of people
drunk and sober
ecstatic and depressed
weaving, intermingling in
a tangle of movement like
tree branches whipped
in a tropical wind, anticipating

we are voyeurs in our
own tangle of arms and
legs and sheets, watching
the passing bodies outside
our bedroom window, hidden

the muffled street noise drifts
on the breeze and the setting
sun casts shades of pinkness
through the transom, onto
our love-slicked bodies

the moments stretch within
the heartache of everything
that is this street we live on
and the love we share in
this miraculous life

Min We Fav Blog Series: Windows 7 Resources, Secrets, & Stuff They Didn’t Tell You

Windows 7
October 22nd, 2009 is the special date that Microsoft has picked to release Windows 7 to the public.  Since the debacle of Vista, Steve Ballmer needed a home run to gain confidence back from the public and shareholders.  As the successor to Windows Vista, critics are already billing the new operating system as a win and beta testers feel like the software company final got it right.  But with any party, there always somebody who wants to crash it.  Apple is coming out swinging with a market pitch to convince people that Windows 7 is still flawed because….well because it’s still Windows and that they should buy a Mac instead.

Perceptions From REM

She was either schizo or

just plain manipulative

She lived her life

between the lines

With a juicy orange Japanese

plum in her mouth

She had a talking dog named

Bonzo

who only ever said

“I want my mamma”

Visions of dead kittens

and writhing insects made

her scream wordlessly at night

Interlopers criticized the

cleanliness of her kitchen

Still, the girl from Gentilly with

the pouty painted lips urged,

“come out!”

Min We Fav Blog Series: The Pleasure Seeker

I had been looking.
For all styles of things, all my life. Music, books, beer, films, sneakers, friends, cities, streets, bars, coffees, loves.
For all manner of people, everywhere. Musicians, writers, fry cooks, janitors, politicians, entymologists, egomaniacs, degenerates, depressives, submissives, jerks, twits, geeks, addicts.
I started off here, in the streets of New Orleans, as a curious teenager. I settled in comfortably for a short stint and got to know the streets and smells, the names and faces, the food, the music, the settings, the energy. My mind was ablaze, racing, rocketing with all the new places and things I wanted. Things I didn’t know I wanted, places I had never been. I never knew what to keep and what to throw away, so I kept everything. Everything! Inside my mind, inside my heart, inside a shoe box with a fading star on it and kept it all with me everywhere. I walked millions of miles in these streets in black Converse All-Stars until eventually I felt like I had looked enough, walked enough in the darkest places and widest spaces and it was finally time to keep going.

Voodoo Music Experience

Hello My Min We Family, I wanted to share with you some of the great artist I got the pleasure of hearing! Note you will definitely see more on these artist this year on the site!

Artist
Lenny Kravitz, Janelle Monae, Ledisi, Flaming Lips, The Cool Kids, Black Keys, The Benjy Davis Project, and Papa Grows Funk

Who I didn't care for much was The Pogues and Widespread Panic (really not my scene). I wished I was able to see Jane's Addiction, KISS, and Eminem.

Best Performances
Maybe I'm bias but Lenny Kravitz and Janelle Monae performances were great. They both got me the most hyped with their electrifying performances. Janelle Monae danced and even painted on stage. Lenny Kravitz performance put me in awe with such songs as Let Love Rule, American Woman and many more.

UNICEF: Getting children back to school in Indonesia

JAKARTA, Indonesia, 5 October 2009 Less than a week ago, the children of Padang, in Indonesia's West Sumatra province, were standing amidst the devastation of an earthquake that had destroyed buildings, caused massive landslides, blocked roads and shattered the water supply. They talked to aid workers of their fears: that more shocks would hit the town, that their homes if still standing would fall, that their lives would forever be changed for the worse.
