Pink Martini

I learned of Pink Martini through Odara of Gimme That Glow. On first listen, I couldn’t get enough. It’s definitely my type of music; relaxing yet energetic, with such beautiful melodies. In so many ways, I would call it Contemporary Spanish Jazz, in which you can see influence from both genres. My favorite song has to be “City of Night” on “Hey Eugene”.

Pink Martini is a Portland “little orchestra”, with blended music of Classical, Latin, and Jazz. 11 person band, with 4 albums under their belt. Those albums include Sympathique (1997), Hand on Little Tomato (2004), Hey Eugene (2007), and Discover the World: Live in Concert (2009). Pink Martini songs have appeared in In the Cut, Nurse Betty, Josie and the Pussycats, Tortilla Soup, Shanghai Kiss , Mr. & Mrs. Smith, Dead Like Me, The Sopranos and The West Wing. Their fourth studio album, Splendor in the Grass is due out October 2009.

Favorite Lyrics: (Hey Eugene)

Hey Eugene! Do you remember me?
I'm that chick you danced with two times
Through the Rufus album, Friday night, at that party
On Avenue A

Where your skinhead friend passed out
For several hours on the bathroom floor
And you told me, you weren't that drunk
And that I was your favorite Salsa dancer
You had ever come across in New York City
