African American Masters offering up Great Art

A great book offering a wonderful collection of art is the African American Masters from the Smithsonian American Art Museum by Gwen Everett. Everett focuses on twentieth century African American artist as they explore their dual heritage. This collection consist of paintings, portraits and documentary images. African American Masters is one of five exhibitions presented as Highlights from the Smithsonian American Art museum that toured the nation from 2003 to 2005. Some artists that can be found in the book are Jules Allen(Untitled NYC), Richmond Barthe (Blackberry Woman), Romare Bearden(Empress of the Blues), John Biggers(Shotgun, Third Ward#1), and others. For all those individuals out there who enjoy art, and may never get a chance to see some of the really great work of the 20th century artist at the peak of their mastery, this is a book you should consider adding to your collection.
